Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cabin Fever - Book Review

This is the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever.

It's the 6th book in the series.

When I tried to check it out at the library, they would not let me because it was new and I needed to live in Port Washington. In fact it was just released yesterday.

But when we got home my parents pre-ordered it.

It's really funny. The Heffley family is stuck indoors because of a big blizzard. I'll tell you more but I do not want to give away the story.

It took me around 1 - 2 hours to read it.

39 Clues

Recently I read the 39 clues series.

It was terrific!

There's a website, too!

There are books, card packs, and online missions.

They are on a 3rd-5th grade reading level.

Algebra, Done!

I just finished all of algebra!

The last thing I did in algebra was conic sections.

In conics we learned how to graph ellipses, hyperbolas, circles, and parabolas.

This a line:

y = x + 5

Parabola:

y = -3x² - 6x - 1

Circle:

(x - 2)² + (y + 3)² = 9

Ellipse:

(x²/6) + (y²/16) = 1

Hyperbola:

x² - y² = 39

A parabola is U-shaped. But it can open up or down.

An ellipse is an oval.

Hyperbola is like two parabolas.

You can tell what shape an equation is just by looking at it.

If one variable either ,x or y, is squared it is a parabola.

If both variables are squared then the graph might be a circle, an ellipse, or a hyperbola.

If the coefficients of x² and y² are the same sign AND equal, the equation represents a circle.

If the coefficients of x² and y² are the same sign BUT different, you have an ellipse.

If the coefficients of x² and y² have different signs(one positive and one negative), then the graph will be a hyperbola.

Book Club

Yesterday I had my first book club meeting at the library.

There were 6 kids.

We read Amber on the Mountain by Tony Johnston and we did a craft based on the book. Next week we are reading The Lorax and Brother Eagle, Sister Sky.

I had a really fun time.

I just finished the second Charlie Bone book - Charlie Bone an the Time Twister.

This book is about time traveling, started by a marble in a game.

Somebody named Henry came from 1916 to Charlie's time.

This is now the biggest book I ever read - 402 pages. It is one more page than the first one.

The time twister is a marble filled with colors and is big and shiny.

My Biggest Book Ever!

This is the longest book I ever read - Midnight for Charlie Bone.

It has 401 pages. I read it in two and a half days.

It was about a 10 year-old boy named Charlie Bone who went to Bloor's Academy for gifted children.

His special power was that he could hear things from people in photographs.

Bloor's Academy is like Hogwarts from Harry Potter!

Two American Biographies

I just read these books:

Daniel Boone lived from 1734-1820.

He was an American Pioneer who was most famous for exploring Kentucky.

He was also a soldier, politician, surveyor, and a merchant.

Benjamin Franklin was a paper printer.

He discovered electricity.

He played music.

He helped write the U.S. Constitution.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States.

Geronimo was an Indian warrior.

The Into Volcano one was about two boys who explore a volcano.

The Pet one was about a cat and a dog and a turtle.

The Benny and Penny one was about two little mice.

Andrew Jackson

Today I just read a short biography about Andrew Jackson.

He was born in 1767 in the Waxhaw region - which is near where I was born, Charlotte, NC.

Andrew joined the army during the Revolutionary War when he was only 13.

His Dad died before he was born, and the rest of his family died during the War.

Even though he was an orphan he went on to do many great things.

And he became the 7th President of the United States.

He's my father's favorite President!

Mother Teresa

I just read a short biography about Mother Teresa.

When she was a kid, she lived in the town of Skopje.

She helped a lot of poor and sick and people. for more information.

She worked for the church.

Elmer and the Dragon

I read 3 Dragon books by Ruth Stiles Gannett. They were about the adventures of a boy named Elmer and the dragon he saved.  These were fantasy books, so it couldn't really happen.  There's tigers eating pink lollipops, birds finding treasure, and flying dragon.

My favorite book was the third one, The Dragons of Blueland  because the bad guys fell in the water.  This happened when the dragons got out of the cave.  I'm wishing that there were more books,but its the end of the series.   

Encyclopedia Brown

I just finished the first Encyclopedia Brown book.

It was about a 10 year-old boy who wants to become a detective.

Do you want to know why they call him "Encyclopedia"?

Because he knows so many facts.

There were 10 cases & he solved them all!

There were 2 stories about bank robberies.

There was one about a stolen necklace and 7 other cases.

Helen Keller

Last night I finished a biography about Helen Keller.

She was a girl who couldn't see, hear, or talk.

Then she had a teacher named Annie Sullivan.

She learned a lot from the teacher.

But soon the teacher couldn't see either.

Helen learned how to write letters in the palm of her hands. If she could see, she could use sign language like other deaf/mute people. Here is a demonstration:



And she learned braille so she could read with her finger tips.

Deep In The World Of Droon

After I read the first Droon book, I read the next dozen in the series:

























And today I hope to finish Book 14 - Voyage of the Jaffa Wind. I read 80 pages so far today and have 52 pages left. This is the longest book yet in the series.

Book's Rock!

Yesterday I finished a book called The Secrets of Droon - The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet.

It was about three kids Eric, Neal, and Julie who found a small door in Eric's basement.

They opened the door and found a magic staircase that led to Droon, the Underworld.

They had a wild adventure with Groggles, Ninns, Princess Keeah, Lord Sparr, a magic carpet, etc.

I really liked it and will read book 2 of the Droon series next.

Fudge Book

I just read that ↑ book.

It's about a 5 year old boy nicknamed Fudge, his family the Hatchers, and their friends the Tubmans.

Together they shared a summer house in maine for 3 weeks.

They went on a boat, played a lot of baseball, had a fake wedding, and a real wedding.

It was a very silly book by Judy Blume.

Book Report - Who Cloned The President?

Today I finished reading this book.

In this book there was some bad people who kidnapped the President and cloned him.

Nobody knew that this happened except for KC and Marshall.

They found out because they saw the fake President on TV writing with his right hand when he was supposed be a lefty.

So they got in to the White House on a tour and hid under Lincoln's bed.

Then at night they searched everywhere and found the real President tied up in the basement.

So they freed him and the bad guys got caught.

Ron Roy also wrote the A to Z Mysteries books.

Book Report - Squanto

That's a book I read this week.

It is a true story about an Indian boy named Squanto.

He lived in America and then he went to London with the white men.

He learned English there and stayed for many years.

Squanto wanted to go home and boarded Captain John Smith's ship.

A bad man named Captain Hunt kidnapped him and tried to sell him as a slave.

But some good men freed him and he got back to his home in America.

Cam Again

Today I read (with a tape) - Cam Jansen and the Birthday Mystery.

It was about stolen presents and suitcases.

Cam used her amazing memory to help catch the thief.
